How to Care for October’s Birthstones: Opal & Tourmaline!

OCTOBER BIRTHSTONES

Last year we introduced you to October’s brilliant birthstones – opal and tourmaline. Did you miss it? Check it out right here. This year, we’re sharing how to keep them looking their best (and maybe showing off a few of our favorites).

Opal

Opals are softer than many other birthstones, so treat them with a little extra care. A few drops of mild dish soap in lukewarm water is all you need. Use a very soft baby toothbrush to gently clean, then pat dry with a soft cloth. Avoid ultrasonic cleaners and harsh chemicals.

Tourmaline

Tourmaline is a bit tougher thanks to lower water content. A soft brush, warm water, and mild dish soap will do the job. Clean thoroughly around the stone and under the setting, just don’t scrub too aggressively.

As always, proper storage matters. Our showrooms carry professional cleaning supplies, and we’re happy to handle the cleaning for you if you’d rather leave it to the experts!
