SEPTEMBER BIRTHSTONE
Last year we gave you the rundown on September’s brilliant birthstone – sapphire. Missed it? No worries, you can still find it right here.
This year we’re focusing on how to keep sapphire gemstones in tip-top shape. Each month’s birthstones have unique qualities, and that’s part of what we love about them. Proper care helps preserve their beauty, maintain their value, and lets you wear them blemish-free for years to come.
Sapphires are hard and durable. On the Mohs scale (the industry standard for measuring hardness), sapphire rates a 9, which means it can handle daily wear and still sparkle with a little TLC.
All you need is warm water, mild dish soap, and a soft-bristled toothbrush. Soak your sapphire jewelry in the soapy water for 15–20 minutes. Then gently brush around the stone and the underside, where grime likes to collect. Rinse thoroughly in lukewarm water, pat dry with a soft cloth, and let it air-dry completely.
Please don’t listen to TikTok tips that suggest cleaning gemstones with toothpaste—we’ve seen it cause damage that even we may not be able to reverse. The safest option is to bring your sapphire (or any gemstone) to one of our locations, and our trained staff will restore it to its perfect, sparkling best. While you’re there, why not browse around? Who knows—your new sapphire ring might be waiting for you. 😉

STAFF FAVORITES
Every month, we dedicate space to let a valued member of our staff show off their favorite piece of jewelry in our showcase. It’s a chance for our experts to show off their superb taste.
This month is special; Karen is the big boss, so when it’s her month to give her personal favorite, we sit our buns down and we LISTEN.
Karen’s pick is a gorgeous heart-shaped genuine ruby with natural diamonds. Karen picked this because one, she put it together herself, and two, it’s a rare and beautiful natural stone, made strictly by Mother Earth.
