A Family Legacy, Built to Last

Three generations, over fifty years of tradition, and a commitment to carrying Johnson Jewelers into the future.

Way back in 1976, Bob Johnson created this very business with the intention of keeping it all in the family. When it came time for him to step back a bit in 2014, he handed the reins to his daughter, Karen, who has since grown Johnson Jewelers into Minnesota’s premier family-run jewelry store.

But let’s face it, retirement is inevitable. Eventually the hands that run this business will change, but Johnson Jewelers’ family-style culture and craftsmanship doesn’t have to. When that day comes, rest easy! Your friendly neighborhood jewelry store will be leaving the store in the best possible hands, and we won’t be changing the things that have earned your trust.

When it comes time for Karen to take her well-deserved step back, she has appointed and prepared her son, Ryan Dopkins, to take over.

Ryan didn’t have to take over the beloved family business. He could have chosen any path he wanted. Like so many others, though, the COVID-19 pandemic clarified what mattered most to him. The family business was growing, and he quickly realized it was up to him to carry the traditions forward. In the end it was the only thing he truly wanted to do, which is why he’s the right person to lead Johnson Jewelers into the future.

That doesn’t mean everything will stay frozen in time. Ryan is deeply analytical and has already identified multiple ways to expand and strengthen the business, all while protecting the same relaxed, welcoming environment customers and employees have always enjoyed. Emerging technologies will be put to work and the online world will be embraced, but at the end of the day the Johnson Jewelers vibe stays firmly in the family.

Ryan might not be self-taught like his grandfather, but that means he learned from the best. He brings the pedigree, the drive, and the knowledge to serve the community in all the same ways his family has and then some. He’s ready and waiting to keep Johnson Jewelers thriving for another fifty years and beyond.
