Get to Know Sapphire, September’s Precious Birthstone!

The stunning sapphire is one of the four gemstones considered so perfect that they get their own special category. Along with ruby, diamond and emerald, sapphire has the well-earned distinction of officially being called “precious” by gemology experts.

These blue beauties take millions of years to form. They are that special. Traditional sapphires tend to be a striking royal blue; however they are also available in pink, yellow and white. Legend and lore say that whichever color you choose, magic and good luck will surely be coming your way.

Coming in at an 8 on the Mohs Hardness Scale (diamonds are the highest at 10), the sapphire is tougher than you might think. It can be worn daily and can take a bit of abuse, but by abuse we mean normal wear and tear from just wearing it when you wish – please don’t use them as hockey pucks. Be as gentle as you can, but feel free to rock your sapphire jewelry with any kind of outfit in any kind of weather.
